DO NOT FORGET

But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today, Deuteronomy 8:18.

One of the cardinal things a child of God must have to continuously progress in life is to possess the attitude of being grateful. The journey of life and faith is not a straight one. Although the word of God has shaped our path to be from faith to faith, the transitions in life may take a number of twists and turns. It is easy to forget past victories when pressure comes your way. You can easily become conceited and think you have come this far all by yourself. How do you ensure that you do not slip into this trap of ingratitude and abort the divine progress in your life?

The word of God tells us in Deuteronomy 8:18 to REMEMBER. The preceding verses read 5He led you through the vast and terrifying wilderness with its venomous snakes and scorpions, a thirsty and waterless land. He brought you water from the rock of flint. 16He fed you in the wilderness with manna that your fathers had not known, in order to humble you and test you, so that in the end He might cause you to prosper. 17You might say in your heart, “The power and strength of my hands have made this wealth for me.”…

Your prosperity can make you forget your roots. You may forget that at a point all you had was God. To keep yourself humble, always look back and remember. The man of God Moses was reminding the Israelites of how God had carried them along so that they do not act as though they had gotten there by themselves. They are many who cling to people in their difficult times and forget them when things start working for them. They only come back when they have another problem. In this life, our journeys are shaped and helped by the vessels God put on our way. God brings men on our path to shape the course of our lives into destiny. Your helpers may be in your life for a season or for a life time as ordained by God. Child of God, when you get to the top, don’t forget that others stood by you to get there. Look back and remember.

God had to humble his servant David, a man after God’s own heart, by reminding him of his past. 8Now then, you are to tell my servant David that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be the ruler over My people Israel, 2 Samuel 2:8. The work of your destiny helpers may be for a season in your life but don’t forget the impact they made on you. Watch your life, are you beginning to forget that you once had no food to eat? Are you beginning to treat little the sacrifices people made for you in your time of need? Oh but that was nothing, how much did he give me then? Are you beginning to speak like this? Child of God, Remember.

Even God our father does not forget. The bible says it is unrighteous to forget. For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister, Hebrews 6:10. Even if God does not forget how should we? In ministry you would notice that the people you stood by in their times of need would be nowhere by your side when you need them. That is forgetfulness. It makes you ungrateful. I remember the story a man of God told me. Someone requested a neating machine from him which he bought at 1000 cedis many years ago for the person. That was a lot of money then and even now. He sent his cloth to this fellow to sew for him and he kept it for 6 months without sewing it. He went back to request for his cloth and this fellow returned it to him undone. Can you imagine how ungrateful people can be? After he bought the machine for him, he now wants to say that he is too busy with his work to attend to the one who bought him the machine. It is not as though he was sewing it for free; the man of God would have paid for it. He kept the material for months and returned it when the man of God asked for it. We have encountered many people who would be on you continually to pray through their issues with them and never hear from them again when they have a breakthrough. Some even turn to stab us in the back.

Look into your life, are you beginning to take the sacrifices of people for granted? My admonition to you is REMEMBER. Remember who paid for your fees. Remember who paid for your rent. Remember who gave you money for food. Remember who connected you to that job. Who linked you to that opportunity or open door? Remember! It is unrighteousness to forget. Remembering is not just the act of reminding yourself but giving back to the places or people who once helped you. For example someone was raised in an orphanage and by the grace of God has become a wealthy man. He forgets the orphanage and gives generously to other charities. There are those who were sponsored by friends and foster parents etc. After they made it in life, they never give back to those people but spend generously somewhere else. Remember, Child of God Remember. There are those who receive various blessings from a ministry but would never share their blessings with that ministry through giving to them. Remember, it is unrighteous to forget.

Look into your life and see if there are people to remember and honor them. It is a spiritual path to continuous progress.

Shalom.

Sincerely,

Emmanuel Opoku Agyemang
