Let’s see it this way, in our normal daily lives, it is the poor who need some things like money, basic needs(food, water, clothes, shelter) etc. The rich do not bother much about basic necessities since their money can buy them those things.Let’s apply the scenario to this scripture now. There are some people in this world who do not think they need Christ in their lives. We see this in their attitudes and in their way of life. They cherish the needs of the flesh more than seeking and searching for God. They are always very busy on their jobs and other things by placing them first and God last. By ignoring God they are demonstrating that they are rich spiritually and do not require God in anything. On the other hand, those who know they are spiritually poor desire to know more about God through the bible reading, Christian’s books, prayer, godly living etc. To them, the Bible makes us understand in Matthew 5:3 that, the kingdom of heaven belongs to them based on their desire for God and the sacrifices they are making for the kingdom sake. Letting go of the worldly pleasures and enjoyment in pursuit of God, they demonstrate their spiritual need. Today, as we go about proclaiming that we are children of God, do we show desire to know him more? How much of God do we want to have which is reflected on our desires. We are to have a desire for the things of God in order to get them. Scripture says, as newborn babies, desire for the sincere milk of the word so that you may grow by them. We have to be hungry and yearn for more of God’s word than any other things provided we want the kingdom of Heaven as our inheritance🙏🙏.
