We need to realize that God is a faith God. He can only interact with man through faith. Without it God can do nothing with man or for man ( Heb 11:6 and without faith it is impossible to please God). At the new birth, God gives every believer the measure of faith. It is the same for everybody (in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you Romans. 12:3). That faith grows by hearing and hearing God’s word. That’s the only way for your faith to grow (Rom 10:17 consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. It’s common to see people raising prayer topics asking God to increase their faith. If only they knew that God doesn’t give out faith increments, they would quit wasting their precious long hours of prayer and get to the word. We have to understand that prayer doesn’t increase faith, it establishes it (. Jud 1:20 but you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.) It’s only the word of God which increases faith. So if you want more faith, get into the word. You can however pray for Faith as one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We are told to desire spiritual gifts and one of them is the gift of Faith. Having the gift of faith does not mean you would not develop your faith in God’s word. You would need to exercise your own faith in God to receive from him.
